What is abuse?

Signs of Adult Abuse

Signs of abuse may be difficult to detect.  There are a number of different types of abuse adults with care and support needs can be at risk of.  These include:

  • Physical abuse
  • Domestic violence or abuse
  • Sexual abuse
  • Psychological or emotional abuse
  • Financial or material abuse
  • Modern slavery and trafficking
  • Discriminatory abuse
  • Organisational or institutional abuse
  • Neglect or acts of omission
  • Self-neglect
  • Radicalisation

If you are concerned that an adult may be at risk, please contact the local authority by calling 020 8708 7333 (select Option 2) or 020 8553 5825 (Out of Hours).  If there is immediate risk call the Police on 999.
